Dear Parents, Families and Colleagues, I am inviting you to join our class wiki page! As I mentioned in the newsletter this week, we are currently using the wiki to journal our science lessons. As the year progresses, we will hopefully be using it to publish our writing and math and participate in other national and global projects.
The students are given the opportunity to wiki for 30-45 minutes every Friday about what they have learned so far in science. Last Friday, we had the field trip and only a limited number of students were able to wiki. Please remember, that these are their thoughts, ideas, concepts and questions about life cycles that they have formed through our class discussions and observations of the butterfly life cycle.
I hope you will join our wiki, respond to student questions, and ask questions to the students. Every child would enjoy getting a response to their wiki. So, please respond to multiple students if possible. They will really enjoy hearing from you, answering your questions and asking you questions.
This science wiki is not about spelling. While I wish every child could spell perfectly and type quickly, these are skills that will come with time and practice. If your child is not writing a lot, please keep in mind that typing can be an obstacle which is why we are now moving to first writing our thoughts on paper and then typing them on the wiki. As the year progresses, I hope their typing skills will improve which is a wonderful skill to have in our technology driven world and at such an early age.
